Amboseli National Park, a natural wonderland almost as large as Delaware and Rhode Island combined, is famous for its abundance of game, the classic quality of its lodges and camps, and for its beguiling views of Kilimanjaro, the monarch of Africa, thrusting three dizzying miles above the park’s grasslands.
The glaciers atop the huge mountain, probably the largest single peak on earth, are still up there, and the mountain is often dusted with snow. As Peter Matthiessen wrote in The Tree Where Man Was Born, “A snow peak in the tropics draws the heart to a fine shimmering painful point of joy.”
Game drives in Amboseli are exceptionally rewarding: the park’s five distinct habitats (ranging from savannah to woodland and sulphur-springed wetlands) support what is probably Africa’s largest population of free-ranging elephants, along with the Cape buffaloes, impalas, lions, cheetahs, hyenas, giraffes, zebras, and wildebeest who—in addition to two score or more other mammal species and 600 bird species—make their domicile in and around the park.
Day 1. Nairobi - Amboseli National Park
7:30 am Your driver/guide will pick you up for the easy road trip to the park. Hop into your private 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep and we’ll begin our adventure on the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway. <ul></ul> You’ll be passing homesteads and fields. Keep an eye out for the Maasai herders in their bright shuka wraps. In time, you’ll see the iconic peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro slowly rising in the distance, our beacon to Amboseli Park. We should arrive in the late morning and have lunch at your safari lodge or tented camp. Mt. Kilimanjaro dominates the park’s southern vista with its 19,000 ft. peak. During your time here at the park, the mountain’s lofty form will be an amazing backdrop for your photos. We’ll head out on our first game drive, the first of many over your 3-day safari. You’re certain to see elephant families marching along. But we’ll also be looking for lion, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, buffalo, leopard, ostrich, warthog, and others. Toward the evening, the clouds covering Kilimanjaro’s peak may part, revealing its famous snow-capped summit. You’ll spend the night at your choice of safari lodge or tented camp. Day 2. Full Day Game Drive
Being on safari, we’ll rise with the sun and head out for an early morning game drive. We’ll catch the first light as it breaks upon the plains and Mt. Kilimanjaro. This is a wonderful time to observe the first stirrings of wildlife. <ul></ul> This drive is followed by breakfast, enjoying the park’s rich ambiance. Then it’s time to pile back into the Jeep for more wildlife adventures. The park is an active environment for many kinds of animals – besides the larger game, look for hyena, fox, jackal, monkey, and baboon. Lunch is up next and perhaps some relaxing time at your accommodation. The afternoon is up to you – relax, go on safari, or you can take advantage of an optional visit to the local Maasai people. Their nearby village will give you an opportunity to meet them and see their ancient lifestyle up close. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 3. Amboseli National Park - Nairobi
This is our third and final safari day so let’s go for more wildlife viewing with an early game drive. If there are any animals we’ve missed this is a great time to track them as they enter into the new day. <ul></ul> We may also go to Observation Hill for inspiring views of the park. Don’t forget Amboseli is also home to a rich variety of birdlife in its marshes. Look for pelican, kingfish, egret, and heron. You’ve probably worked up an appetite so let’s enjoy breakfast at your lodge or tented camp. Now it’s time to head back to Nairobi but first, we’ll take a final game drive as we exit the park. Relax on the easy drive as we exit Maasai country and perhaps reflect on the adventures of the last 3 days. We’ll have you back in town by late afternoon and bring you to your hotel, the airport, or another place of your choosing.
